A special effort from a special bowler.  On the fuller side, just around the off pole. Islam exposes all three stumps and has a poke at the ball. It grazes the outside edge before it is snaffled with ease by Alex Carey. 

At 133.7 kph, angled in before straightening off the deck, on a good length. Taijul pushes out in front of his body. It goes away off the seam to whistle past the outside edge.

FOUR! Crunched. Pat pushes the length up, outside off. Taijul stays beside the line of the ball and extends his hands. He cracks the drive through covers and well away from the man at deep point to his left.

From over the wicket now, on a good length, landing outside the line of the leg stump. Taijul looks to play the line of the ball but gets an inside edge and it drops beside the strip on the leg side. They cross.

Out comes the short ball, around the right shoulder. Shoriful gets inside the line and ducks under it.

In the air... but it lands in no man's land. Bashes the deck, following the batter as he backs away. Islam makes room and launches it down the ground. Only gets the height and not the distance. There is no one at mid off and the ball lands safely in front of the ropes. Two taken as the mid on fielder gives chase and hauls it in.

FOUR! Bangladesh go past 50. Cummins goes searching for the yorker at the stumps. It comes out as a low full toss. Shoriful is expecting another short ball, and he is deep in the crease. He backs away and clears the front leg. Just about gets his bat down and drives it back past the bowler for a four.

That will sting. Hits the hard length, cramping the batter for room. Shoriful is rushed as he shapes up for the pull. Cops a blow on the arm guard on his left hand.

FOUR! Beautiful shot. Back of a length, going across off. Shoriful plays it on the rise as he extends his hands and punches it in front of square on the off side. The deep point fielder sprints to his left and dives but in vain.

Ooh, doesn't carry! Lovely line and length from Hazlewood, bowling it on a good length and angling it across off. Taijul Islam pushes at it and gets an outside edge in front of Steve Smith at second slip.

Fuller this time and around off, drives firmly but straight to mid off.

Short-pitched delivery over middle and off, Islam leans back and tries to play a cheeky late ramp but misses out.

Hazlewood comes around the wicket and slants the ball back in from outside off. Taijul throws the hands at it but fails to connect.

Banged into the deck and angled at the batter. Islam defends it just to the leg side. The batters think about the single but decide aginst it.

FOUR! Laced away to the fence and Bangladesh avoid being bowled out for their equal lowest Test total. Good-length delivery wide of the off stump, Taijul Islam plays an eye-catching square drive and gets it through the infield for a boundary.

OUT! CAUGHT! Taskin Ahmed had made up his mind that he was going to take the short ball on, but it does not come off for him. Cummins digs it in short, over middle. Taskin backs away, exposing all three stumps. Gets his hands high and swings across for the pull. It is skied in front of square on the leg side. Matt Renshaw runs to his left from mid-wicket, settles under it and does the rest. Bangladesh are now 39/9, still 4 runs behind their lowest Test score of 43.

Goes past the bat. Around the off stump, on a good length. Shoriful stays beside the line and flashes at the ball, only to miss.

FOUR! Nicely done. On a hard length, on off. Shoriful Islam stands tall on his toes and gets his hands high to ride the bounce. Punches it square of the wicket through point and picks up a boundary. Bangladesh move to 43, level with their lowest Test score.

On a good length, outside off. Islam leaves nothing in the tank and swings but does not connect.

Ouch. Dishes out a bumper and angles it into the left-hander. Shoriful cannot duck under it quickly and gets hit on the left shoulder. 

Another swing and a miss. Fuller in length, outside off. Islam ends up giving himself too much room. He swings for the hills but can only connect with thin air.

On the off pole, on a length. Taskin defends it out on the off side.

Pitches it up, outside off. Taskin throws his hands at the ball but misses.

 What happened there? Josh Hazlewood seems to be suggesting that Taskin Ahmed intentionally got in the way, but the replays suggest that Taskin did try to get out of the way but just couldn't. Banged in short from around the wicket, on middle. Taskin makes room and swings at it. It is skied beside the strip on the leg side. As the ball goes up in the air, Taskin sets off for the single unaware of where the ball is. Seeing Hazlewood running towards him, Taskin stops and tries to turn around. Josh cannot get around the bowler and as a result, he cannot go for the catch. The ball ends up dropping well out of his reach. 

A big swing and a miss. Fuller and angled into the left-hander. Ahmed swings with all his might but is beaten on the inside edge.

Miscued but safe. On a hard length, on middle. Taskin tries to take it on but is rushed. Shovels it just over mid-wicket and ends up hitting the ball twice. Once off the splice of the blade before he makes contact with the ball again. He clears mid-wicket and picks up a single.

Into the wicket, on middle. Islam hops to fend it down.

At 133.3 kph, on off and middle, on a nagging length. Taijul hangs back to defend.

Alyssa Healy was just talking about how this pair might need to swing their bats around rather than risk copping a blow from a bouncer, and right on cue, Cummins delivers one. A sharp and quick bumper at 137.8 kph, Islam takes his eyes off the ball and ducks under it.

Lands it on a back of a length, on middle. Taijul stays back to keep it out.

Switches to around the wicket now, fuller and just outside the off stump. Islam pushes at the ball but it seams away to go past the outside edge.

Bouncer, on off. Taijul drops his wrists and leaves it alone.

Serves it full, outside off and there is still a bit of an away shape. Hasan offers no shot.

Brings the line closer to the off stump and shortens the length too. Hasan has a feel for the ball before he opts to withdraw his bat.

Drifts on the pads with a length ball. Hasan brings his wrists into play and clips it to the left of deep fine leg for a couple of runs. Mitchell Starc tidies up in the deep.

Into the deck, it comes around the midriff but the line is a bit down leg. Hasan ducks under it.

OUT! CAUGHT! The leg slip comes into play straight away. Along with the field change, Josh Hazlewood also changes his angle of attack as he comes from around the wicket. Bowls it on a back of a length, at the hips. Mahmud cannot resist the temptation of playing the glance. He works it away off the hips but straight into the waiting hands of Nathan Lyon at leg slip, who gobbles it up at waist height. Bangladesh are now 38/8, with 43 being their lowest Test score. It came against West Indies back in 2018.

Back to over the wicket for the left-hander, hitting the good length, on middle. Taskin pats it down on the off side.

Starts with the nip-backer, full in length, outside off. Miraz shoulders arms.

Bowled on a good length, outside off. Miraz lets the ball come on. He is slightly squared up but manages to angle it down to gully.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Pat Cummins strikes early after the break. Mehidy Hasan Miraz got away with a few loose strokes in the first session but not this time. Cummins pushes the length up, around the off stump. Miraz pushes out well in front of his body and goes at it with hard hands. The wobble seam ball moves away enough to catch the outside edge, and there is a bit of lift off the deck as well. It travels quickly to third slip, where Beau Webster gets low to his right and takes a sharp catch.

Delivers it on a nagging length, on middle. Islam stabs it down on the off side.

Angled across the left-hander, on the fuller side. Islam pushes away from his body and is beaten past the outside edge.

This kisses the deck and gathers pace. It also keeps rising on its way to the keeper, not close enough to make the batter play and Taijul shoulders arms.

Lands it on a back of a length, outside off, Hasan lets it pass. Josh has overstepped. No Ball given.

Pitches it up, around off. Mahmud leans on and knocks it to mid off.

Goes wide on the crease and drags the length back a bit, targeting the off pole. Hasan presents a straight bat to keep it out. It goes behind off the outer half. Marnus Labuschagne slides to his left to cut it off.

An absolute beauty! This is on a good length, angled in at the off stump before it straightens off the deck. Hasan shows the full face of the bat to play the original line of the ball. Gets beaten past the outside edge as it moves away off the seam.

Across the off stump, full in length. Miraz blocks it off with a straight bat.

Angled away, bowled on a length. Miraz extends his hands and drops it beside the strip on the off side. Single taken.

FOUR! Nicely done. Fuller than the previous ball, and it swings back in, on off. Hasan lunges and presents a high elbow to play a punchy drive well to the right of mid off for a boundary.

This is on a hard length, outside off. Mahmud gets on his toes and tucks his bat inside the line of the ball to let it through.

A late appeal for caught behind. Turned down by the umpire. There was no reaction from Mitchell Starc. Really full, pushed across the right-hander. Mahmud hurriedly gets his bat down to keep it out. The replays indicate that there was a gap between the bat and the ball, and the sound was of the bat hitting the ground.

On the fuller side, attacking the front pad. Mahmud wrists it wide of mid-wicket and takes a single.

Moving away in the air, on a good length but well wide on off. An easy leave for Hasan.

Full and drifting into the pads. Hasan ekes out an inside edge on the block. It goes behind to deep fine leg. They cross.

A bit of hesitation but no harm done. Targeting the off stump, on a length. Mehidy plays it right under his eyes and defends it late. It dribbles wide of point, and the two batters make a late decision to set off for the single. Marnus Labuschagne misses his shy at the bowling end, but Miraz was in anyway.

Beats the bat straight away. This is angled across the right-hander, on a good length. Miraz has a slight poke at the ball, expecting the ball to come back in, but it goes away with the angle to beat him on the outside edge.

Bowled at 137 kph, angled away, on a length. Miraz is a bit tentative with his footwork and hangs his bat out. It squirts off the outer half to backward point, where the fielder makes a diving stop to his left.

A hint of inward shape, this is cranked up at 148.1 kph, fuller and making the batter play. Miraz presents a straight bat and defends it out.

Shaping back into the right-hander and the length stays full. Miraz knocks it to mid off.

Hits the good length, does Pat. Mahmud hangs back to deal with it and plays down the initial line of the ball. It straightens off the deck to beat the batter on the outside edge.

A man comes in at leg gully. Cummins pushes the length up, in line with the off stump. Hasan blocks it out watchfully with a straight bat.

Serves a full ball, outside off. It goes away off the seam a touch as Mahmud shoulders arms.

Goes past the bat. At 135.6 kph, full and outside off, moving away off the deck. Hasan is sucked into the drive and his feet go nowhere. He is lucky not to have nicked it behind.

Pitches it up and gets the ball to curve away in the air, around off. Miraz pushes it towards cover.

Drags the length back a bit and keeps it in the corridor of uncertainity, Mehidy offers no shot.

This is bowled by going wide on the crease and it is angled in at the sticks. Miraz brings his bat out in front of the front pad to defend.

FOUR! Lovely shot. A bit too full by Webster, on off and middle. Miraz takes a step down the track and presents a high elbow to firm the drive to the right of the man at mid off for a boundary.

A flash and a miss. Floated up there by Webster, full and wide on off. Miraz sinks to a knee and looks to force the drive through the off side. The ball moves away in the air enough to go past the blade.

Hard length from Pat, wide of the off stump, and there's a bit of extra lift on this one. Rahim shoulders arms.

Cummins goes a touch fuller and brings the ball back into the stumps. Rahim gets the trigger movement going across the off stump and taps it to short mid-wicket.

OUT! TIMBER! Straight through! Pat Cummins hits the perfect length, not all that full and lands it on off. Mushfiqur Rahim is drawn forward and looks to drive with a straight bat, but the ball hits the dirty seam and nips back in, going through bat and pad to shatter into the stumps. Rahim could have and should have done better, but that's classic Cummins for you. Bangladesh are now 21/6, and into the tail we go.

Misfield! Hard length in the channel, Hasan Mahmud stays back and pokes at it. The ball rolls down to the left of point, where Marnus Labuschagne lets it through and concedes a couple of runs.

A skiddy bumper now, over middle and leg, Mahmud does well to duck under it.

Pitched a bit fuller now and on the sixth stump line, straightening a touch. Mahmud leaves it alone.

Pitched up fuller around off, Miraz blocks it with soft hands towards gully.

Similar line, but the length is pulled back by a few inches. Miraz prods and dabs it down towards point. Beau Webster has overstepped actually, and that's a big front-foot No Ball as well.

Length ball outside off, shaping away a bit, left alone by Mehidy.

Short of a good length, angled in from outside off, this one doesn't rise much. Miraz hops back and pushes it out late towards point.

Well bowled! Just back of a length, angled in again but this one straightens a touch. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has a flirt outside the off stump and manages to keep it down towards gully.

That's loose from Mehidy. Full and well wide of the off stump, enticing the drive. Mehidy Hasan Miraz goes after it but the ball shapes away and is beaten by a mile.

And again! Too full and too wide outside off, shaping away. Miraz goes for the expansive cover drive but only connects with thin air.

Good-length delivery, darting away from the fifth stump line. Rahim shoulders arms.

There's that extra bounce that Cummins naturally extracts regardless of the surface. Skiddy length on off, angles in and gets some extra lift. Rahim looks to block but gets hit on the gloves.

Back of a length and outside off, left alone by Mushfiq. Good carry through to the keeper.

Bowled from wider on the crease, slanted in a long way. Rahim gets halfway forward and pushes it down in front of point.

A short ball now, at around 138 clicks, dug in over the stumps and angled down leg. Rahim ducks under it.

A full ball to follow the bumper, but this is well outside the off stump. Rahim leaves it alone, and it will be a maiden for Cummins. Bangladesh are 20/5.

Webster begins with a gentle-paced delivery, bowling it shorter and wider of the off stump line. Rahim leaves it alone.

Back of a length, on a tight line around off. Rahim gets on his toes and taps it to point. Miraz wants the single but Rahim says, 'Wait, wait, wait.'

Pitched fuller around off, Rahim gets halfway forward and pushes it to the left of the bowler.

Half a shout for a caught behind and a late one too - turned down. But hang on, Pat Cummins has a chat with the bowler and the keeper, and the review is taken. Beau Webster keeps the length full, on off and gets the ball to nibble away. Mushfiqur Rahim leans on to block, but is beaten past the outside edge. There's a slight noise, which might be of the bat flicking the pad. The third umpire has a look and technology shows a gap between bat and ball. Australia lose a review and it stays Not Out.

Length ball, too wide of the off stump, flirting with the tramline. Rahim lets it go.

Full and at the toes, Mushfiqur Rahim clips it away past square leg. The sub fielder, Josh Inglis at deep mid-wicket, runs a fair bit to his left and keeps the ball in play, saving a run for his side. 

Lovely delivery! The in-between length, just outside off and Cummins gets it to straighten sharply off the deck. Mehidy Hasan Miraz gets squared up and is beaten well past the outside edge.

Good length around the top of off, Mehidy gets onto the front foot and blocks it off.

Full and straight, Cummins looks for the late outswinger. Miraz gets forward and punches it straight back, albeit a bit uppishly and past the outstretched right hand of the bowler for a couple of runs.

Banged in on a hard length, wide outside off, and angling away with extra bounce. Left alone.

Cummins goes wider on the crease and slants it into the pads. Miraz leans on to tuck it away but gets an inside edge onto the pad.

Not quite there for the drive, and Mehidy nearly gets chopped on. Full of a good length, in that corridor of uncertainty. Mehidy gets forward to play the cover drive but gets a big inside edge onto the pads.

A bit fuller than good length, pitched wide of the off stump and bounces like a tennis ball. Rahim leaves it for the keeper to collect.

Pitched fuller and in the channel, considerably less swing than what we saw earlier on. Rahim drives it off the inner half of the blade towards mid off.

Short-pitched delivery at 141 clicks, over middle and attacking the helmet. Rahim ducks under it. After every single ball so far in this over, Starc has muttered a few words at Mushfiq.

Good length, wide outside off, left alone.

A bit fuller now, outside off, a teaser for the batter to drive at it. Rahim curbs his inhibitions and makes another leave. A bit of late swing on that one as well.

Full ball on the fourth stump line, angles across a touch. Rahim strides across and shoulders arms.

At 130.3 kph, full and a bit of movement back into the right-hander. It is just outside the off stump and Miraz shoulders arms.

Bowled on a good length, not close enough to make the batter play. Miraz tucks his bat well inside the line and it goes through to Alex Carey. 

Full and targeting the off pole. Miraz does not try to overhit this one and just presents the full face of the bat. Eases the drive to the right of Travis Head at mid off and collects a couple of runs.

Bangs it in short, over middle. Mehidy Hasan Miraz ducks under it.

In the channel, on a length. Miraz stays rooted to the crease and pushes slightly away from his body. He does so late and angles it to backward point.

Angled in before it moves away off the seam, on a good length, just outside the off pole. Mehidy is squared up but manages to dab it down on the off side.

Going away with the angle, Mehidy Hasan Miraz does not go chasing after the ball and lets it through.

Doing too much! Tailing back in late, on a length, Miraz is beaten all ends up due to the late movement. He attempts the flick but gets hit on the pads before it drops on the leg side.

Nearly dragged it back onto the stumps. Really full, outside off. Miraz extends his hands to cash in on the width but the ball moves back in late to catch the inside edge. Gets it behind towards deep fine leg for a single.

Digs it in short, outside off. Rahim drops his wrists and arches back to make the leave.

A man goes back on the fence for the pull, but Hazlewood goes wide on the crease and brings the stumps into play with a full ball. Rahim keeps it out with the bat close to the front pad.

DROPPED! Beau Webster has shelled a sitter. Simply unbelievable. An absolute snorter by Starc as he serves a bumper, over middle and leg, shaping back in. Das gets into a tangle and gets his hands high to fend it down. It catches the shoulder of the blade and lobs behind to third slip, where Beau Webster is overeager to celebrate and is on the move when the ball gets to him and fails to cling on.

OUT! LBW! A five-wicket haul inside 4 overs for Mitchell Starc. Starc has put on an absolute clinic in Mackay. Hooping back in sharply, fuller and on middle and leg. Das' head falls over to the off side for the flick and is beaten on the inside edge. It clips the front pad before thudding into the back pad. There is a big appeal for LBW. It is received with a shake of the head by Kumar Dharmasena. Pat Cummins checks with the men behind the bat and takes the review. There were again two noises but the UltraEdge comes up with a flat line, confirming no involvement of the bat. The Ball Tracking comes up as three reds with the ball crashing into the leg stump. The on-field decision is overturned, and it is a fourth duck in Bangladesh's innings. They are now 5 down for 12.

Attacking the front pad, a hint of inward shape, Miraz brings his bat out in front to block.

This is angled across but too wide and it is an easy leave for Miraz.

Around the off stump, on a good length, there is a bit of lift off the deck. Rahim leans on and strokes it through covers, picking up a couple of runs to get off the mark.

Nearly sneaked through. Nip-backer, on a good length again, on the off stump. Rahim presses half-forward to defend, but the ball kicks up to ping him on the right elbow. It deflects onto the back thigh before dribbling away.

In the channel on off. Rahim covers the off stump and holds his bat high to make the leave.

Hazlewood bashes the hard length at 133.3 kph, on off. Rahim drops his wrists and stays beside the line to let the ball go through to the keeper.

Pushes the length up but needs to be fuller to draw the batter forward. This is outside off and Rahim is happy to let it go.

A confident shout for LBW, but turned down. There were two noises, and the height could be a factor as well. Josh Hazlewood wants it reviewed, but Pat Cummins opts against it. Fuller than the previous ball, angled in, on middle and leg. Rahim pushes out in front of his body to play it down the ground but the ball jags back with bounce to go past the inside edge and catches him on the back thigh. The Ball Tracking later confirms that the bounce would have taken the ball over the stumps.

Very full and on middle, Mominul Haque smothers it on the full, digging it out on the off side.

Good-length delivery, on off stump, doesn't shape away much. Haque blocks it off.

That's the stock delivery from Starc. Pushing it fuller, threatening to angle into the off stump but then shaping it away. Haque pushes at it but the ball beats the outside edge.

Length ball, drifting down the leg side. Haque fails to flick it away.

OUT! TAKEN! Mitchell Starc just keeps knocking 'em down with ease. Another very full ball, fairly wide outside off and swings away very late. Similarly to what Tanzid did, Mominul Haque follows the ball and tries to dab it into the off side, but it's a nothing shot. He just pushes it off the outside edge wide of gully, and Cameron Green dives in front and to his left, snaffling it inches above the ground. OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Mitchell Starc at his very best, and he's got a wicket off the first ball of the over again. Starc pushes the ball very full and outside off, getting it to shape away. It's a bit of a nothing shot from Tanzid Hasan as he just jabs at it and the ball flies off the outside edge to third slip. Beau Webster takes a sharp catch around his waist and the Aussies appeal for a catch. The umpires want to check whether it is a bump ball or not, and the very first replay quickly confirms that it isn't a bump ball. Australia have turned up the heat.

OUT! LBW! Mitchell Starc is on a hat-trick! Starc goes full again but he pushes the ball into the left-hander this time. Najmul Hossain Shanto leans on to flick but falls over a bit and gets beaten past the inside edge, getting hit on the front pad. There is a big appeal, and the umpire's finger eventually goes up. Kumar Dharmasena really took his time with this one and Najmul Hossain Shanto has reviewed it. The third umpire is called in and there's nothing on UltraEdge. Ball Tracking shows that it is just clipping the leg stump and that's enough for the on-field call to stand. Bangladesh are in a spot of real bother at 9/3 as their skipper departs for a golden duck.

The double bluff, but it doesn't quite work out for Starc. This is pitched on a good length, around the fourth stump line, but doesn't nip back in enough. Mushfiqur Rahim makes the leave, and the ball goes through to the keeper. No hat-trick!

Just a shade fuller this time, similar line to the last one and shapes in a touch. Rahim gets forward and then makes an exaggerated leave.

A bit of swing into the left-hander to begin with from Josh. Good length, starts on leg and darts in. Hasan tucks it behind square leg and gets off the mark with a single.

Lovely length and channel from Hazlewood, just outside off and shaping it back in. Haque shoulders arms at it.

A beauty from the Hoff! Just a shade under 129 clicks, lands it on middle and gets it to zip across the left-hander, late as well. Mominul Haque gets beaten past the outside edge and the ball goes over the stumps as well.

Much fuller on middle, Haque gets slightly forward and nudges it out to cover.

Straighter line, on the fuller side and angling down leg. Haque looks to tuck it fine but misses.

FOUR! Nearly a perfect start for Hazlewood as well. Nice and full, swinging into the pads, and there's a bit of spongy bounce on offer for the bowlers. Mominul Haque clips it uppishly and to the left of Pat Cummins at wide mid-wicket. He springs across, but the ball goes well wide and runs away to the fence.

OUT! CAUGHT! Well, well! Would you believe it? Make that a fourth time that Mitchell Starc has struck on the first ball of a Test match. Adam Gilchrist on-air was just speaking about it before the first ball, and Starc's done it. He darts a fuller ball in towards middle stump and gets it to shape away beautifully. Shadman Islam ends up playing down the wrong line and the outside edge is found. The ball goes towards gully, where Cameron Green takes a good low catch.

Fuller and on the pads, looking for the booming outswinger, but this one slides on. Mominul Haque misses the flick and the ball brushes the pads on its way to the keeper.

FOUR! Too full and straight again, and Bangladesh are off the mark. On the pads, angling down leg, Haque clips it nicely down to fine leg and picks up a boundary to get going.

A change in line from Starc as he bowls this one in the channel outside off, getting it to shape away a bit. Haque makes a watchful leave.

Good length, wider of the off pole and shaping away nicely. Haque lets it go.

A good change-up to end the over. Mitchell Starc bangs it in shorter over off at 138.6 kph, taking the batter by surprise. Mominul Haque hops up to fend it away, and the ball shapes away, going past the handle of the blade. Entertaining start to the Test and Starc has a big smile on his face.
