Outside off, Mendis tapped it to the left of mid off and set off like a hare, without calling, for the single. Dinesh Chandimal was never interested in that single and for a reason. It was Temba Bavuma out there. The Protea skipper swooped onto the ball like a hawk and fired a direct hit at the striker's end. He missed but Kyle Verreynne collected it and hit the stumps. Luckily for Sri Lanka, Mendis was home, after being sent back.

Change of pace did the trick. Keshav Maharaj just slowed this through the air, and landed just a bit short around off. Dhananjaya de Silva just looked to tuck it through the leg side but played just that tad early. Instead of working it through square leg, he ended up chipping it straight to Tristan Stubbs at short mid-wicket. The Lankan skipper just stands there in disbelief, before trudging off. FOUR! Nicely played. For the first time in the game, one senses a bit of pressure on the South Africans. They are struggling for control and the Lankans are making use of that. FOUR AND FIFTY FOR DE SILVA! It took the umpire a while to signal it as runs and not a leg bye, but Dhananjaya de Silva won’t be celebrating much just yet. He's being positive in his approach and has looked to fight fire with fire thus far! He is slowly but surely leading his side out of trouble. Flatter and fuller, coming on with the arm, on middle and leg, Dhananjaya de Silva sweeps and gets just enough on it to beat the fielder at short fine to his right. 

FOUR! 50 FOR CHANDIMAL! A hard-fought one. Copped a lot of blows last evening and continues to hang in there, showing some fight. Gets a short ball first up from Jansen after the break and goes for the pull. Does not connect cleanly as he is cramped for room amd ends up dragging it. As a result, the ball went uppishly and in between short mid-wicket and mid on.

Inside edge, misses the stumps! What a bluff from Rabada and Bavuma. With short leg moved back to deep square leg and deep mid-wicket brought in, Dhananjaya de Silva was perhaps expecting the short ball. He was rooted in his crease but Rabada smartly bowled it much fuller than Dhananjaya's expectation. It was outside off and de Silva reacted very late to try and defend. The Proteas start to celebrate and Nissanka starts to make his way out but all that for absolutely nothing. They now show the giant screen and there is some doubt among the players. The first replay seems to indicate that Rabada's foot might have just landed inside the line and Kyle Verreynne starts to protest. Temba Bavuma now has a chat with the umpire and they are almost in a process of taking a review for this. But umpire Saikat clears that, saying that they cannot take a review based on what they see on the giant screen. From what we can see, Rabada's foot landed on the line and the line belongs to the umpire. Sanath Jayasuriya heaves a sigh of relief in the dressing room.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A boundary previous ball boosted his confidence but a wicket next ball has boosted Rabada's confidence! Uncharacteristically loose from Dimuth Karunaratne. Rabada keeps this much closer to the bat but the line is well away from the off stump. Karunaratne reaches out for it, looking to push but only manages a thick outside edge. It flies straight to Tristan Stubbs at third slip who makes no mistake. Karunaratne departs for 4 and Sri Lanka are 12/1, needing another 504 for victory! 32.1 overs still left on Day 3.

SPECTACULAR EFFORT FROM KYLE VERREYNNE! He is a hard man and is considering it as an opportunity lost. But it would be very harsh to call it a drop. A short ball, around middle and leg, Pathum Nissanka went for the pull and got a bit of a glove onto it. Perhaps that's why, the ball didn't fly away. It still went high and the keeper, Kyle Verreynne leapt full stretch to his left. Tried to stick out his right hand and the glove did touch the ball, but he couldn't quite hang on. Gets up and instantly shakes his head, disappointed with himself. A single taken.

It was a full ball alright and Dimuth Karunaratne missed his flick, getting hit on the pads. South Africa appealed and Rabada convinced his skipper to take the review. Actually, stand-in skipper.
